SMITHER PARKABOUT

Smither Park is coming to life on a half-acre of land adjacent to the Orange Show Monument. Designed by visionary artist and builder Dan Phillips, the park is in memory of John H. Smither, a long-time supporter and collector of folk art and former board member of the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art. Inspired by the aesthetics and philosophy of the Orange Show, Smither Park will be a testimony to the vibrancy and creativity of the city of Houston.

A relatively new attraction adjacent to the Orange Show is Smither Park. It sits on a half-acre of landed and was designed by visionary artist and builder Dan Phillips. Phillips built the landmark in honor of the late John H. Smither, a long-time supporter and collector of folk art. Smither Park is still under construction but can still be viewed as it is. The goal is to make Smither Park a testimony to the vibrance and creativity of the city of Houston. Artist have come from all over the nation to contribute their art to the installation. Each area of the wall has a theme close to the heart to the artists. It is the park that celebrates everyone. It will be the first green park in the city of Houston.

The Orange Show is located at 2402 Munger Street, in a small residential neighborhood just off the Gulf Freeway, near the Telephone Road Exit. The Orange Show offices are located directly across the street from the monument.
